Part I: The Dreams

Drake is tormented by dreams of a mysterious woman, who he has fallen deeply in love with, but who brings every night pain and torment over the evils he has committed. He has through these dreams been driven to the aid of Katrina, the Vampire Slayer, and her Watcher, Anita Blake.

My Immortal

my immortal
i'm so tired of being here
suppressed by all of my childish fears
and if you have to leave
i wish that you would just leave
because your presence still lingers here
and it won't leave me alone

these wounds won't seem to heal
this pain is just too real
there's just too much that time cannot erase

when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears
when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears
and i've held your hand through all of these years
but you still have all of me

you used to captivate me
by your resonating light
but now i'm bound by the life you left behind
your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams
your voice it chased away all the sanity in me

these wounds won't seem to heal
this pain is just too real
there's just too much that time cannot erase

when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears
when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears
and i've held your hand through all of these years
but you still have all of me

i've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
and though you're still with me
i've been alone all along

Part II: The Visitations

As the dreams intensify, Drake finds himself more and more tormented, and begins to wonder if vampires can truly go mad. One night, he returns to his crypt to find the woman who haunts his dreams sitting, waiting for him in his crypt. He is naturally unsettled.

Katherine: You really don't remember me, do you?
Drake: No, of course I don't. Why do you persist in tormenting me?
Katherine: I have no choice, Draco. Our sins have driven both of us to this point.
Drake: I'm a vampire, do you understand that? Sinning is what I am. It's what I do.
Katherine: Yes, Draco. I understand all too well what you are. But you don't have to be that way. It can change for both of us
Drake: And what if I don't want it to change? What if this is how I want to be?
Katherine: Then you damn both of us.
Drake (Screaming): Just leave me alone!

Haunted

long lost words whisper slowly to me
still can't find what keeps me here
when all this time i've been so hollow inside
i know you're still there

watching me wanting me
i can feel you pull me down
fearing you loving you
i won't let you pull me down

hunting you i can smell you - alive
your heart pounding in my head

watching me wanting me
i can feel you pull me down
saving me raping me
watching me

Part III: Torment

The dreams and visitations worsen, until Drake is unable to discern reality from fantasy. In one of his delusional states, he almost injures Kat, and upon coming to his senses, retreats into the cellar, where he hides from his erstwhile companions. Anita decides to conduct a seance to communicate with this mysterious spirit.

Taking Over Me

you don't remember me but i remember you
i lie awake and try so hard not to think of you
but who can decide what they dream?
and dream i do...

i believe in you
i'll give up everything just to find you
i have to be with you to live to breathe
you're taking over me

have you forgotten all i know
and all we had?
you saw me mourning my love for you
and touched my hand
i knew you loved me then

i believe in you
i'll give up everything just to find you
i have to be with you to live to breathe
you're taking over me

i look in the mirror and see your face
if i look deep enough
so many things inside that are just like you are taking over

My Tourniquet

i tried to kill the pain
but only brought more
i lay dying
and i'm pouring crimson regret and betrayal
i'm dying praying bleeding and screaming
am i too lost to be saved
am i too lost?

my God my tourniquet
return to me salvation
my God my tourniquet
return to me salvation

do you remember me
lost for so long
will you be on the other side
or will you forget me
i'm dying praying bleeding and screaming
am i too lost to be saved
am i too lost?

my God my tourniquet
return to me salvation
my God my tourniquet
return to me salvation

my wounds cry for the grave
my soul cries for deliverance
will i be denied Christ
tourniquet
my suicide

Drake awakens in a delirium and races up from Anita's basement, screaming Katherine's name, heading straight for Kat's bedroom. In his fevered mind, the similarity between the names of the two women has merged them into a single person. It takes John, Walter, Anita, and Cyan to restrain him until he comes to his senses. He retreats into the basement. Anita decides that if they don't get some answers, she will have to kill Drake. The group holds a seance.

John: Who are you?
Katherine (speaking through Anita): Katherine the Vampire Slayer. I was chosen, like your Katrina, several hundred years ago.
John: Why are you tormenting Drake?
Katherine: I have no choice. The Powers have sent me.
John: The Powers?
Katherine: Yes. The Powers that Be. Drake is coming to a crossroads, where he will soon have to make a choice. A choice that will affect the fate of the world, and the fate of both of our souls.
John: And what do you have to do with this?
Katherine: I loved him, once. I still do. Our fates are thus bound. If he chooses the wrong path, my soul will be forever damned.

Part IV: Rememberance

During the final battle at the Hellmouth, things are going badly. They take a decided turn for the worse when Drake is knocked unconscious by one of the Sisters of Jhe. However, while out cold, Drake remembers a past long buried, and finds within himself a soul that was never lost...

Drake Remembers: The Flashback, 1714

Katherine the Vampire Slayer, the love of Draco's life as a human, has been missing for 200 years. Somehow, she has been transported into the future where she does battle with Draco's army of vampire minions--vampires that Draco has spawned in desperation, for he is not like other vampires and desires nothing more than companionship. As the two see one another, Draco remembers what he was, what he left behind, and they begin to fight their way towards one another. Katherine is mortally wounded in the struggle, and collapses into Draco's arms.

Whisper

catch me as i fall
say you're here and it's all over now
speaking to the atmosphere
no one's here and i fall into myself
this truth drives me into madness
i know i can stop the pain if i will it all away

don't turn away
don't give in to the pain
don't try to hide
though they're screaming your name
don't close your eyes
God knows what lies behind them
don't turn out the light
never sleep never die

i'm frightened by what i see
but somehow i know that there's much more to come
immobilized by my fear
and soon to be blinded by tears
i can stop the pain if i will it all away

don't turn away
don't give in to the pain
don't try to hide
though they're screaming your name
don't close your eyes
God knows what lies behind them
don't turn out the light
never sleep never die

fallen angels at my feet
whispered voices at my ear
death before my eyes
lying next to me i fear
she beckons me shall i give in
upon my end shall i begin
forsaking all i've fallen for i rise to meet the end

Draco carries Katherine to a chapel, where she lays bleeding to death in his arms. She makes her final plea to him as the light of life fades from her eyes. In the recesses of Drake's fevered mind, he knows that Katherine dies here, and that after another few years of enraged vampiric activities, he sleeps for the next 200 years, forgetting all that has befallen him, blocking out his memories of Katherine and their love. But now, something is different. Something must change, this time. Drake's crossroads, his second chance, has arrived.

My Last Breath

hold on to me love
you know i can't stay long
all i wanted to say was i love you and i'm not afraid
can you hear me?
can you feel me in your arms?

holding my last breath
safe inside myself
are all my thoughts of you
sweet raptured light it ends here tonight

i'll miss the winter
a world of fragile things
look for me in the white forest
hiding in a hollow tree (come find me)
i know you hear me
i can taste it in your tears

holding my last breath
safe inside myself
are all my thoughts of you
sweet raptured light it ends here tonight

closing your eyes to disappear
you pray your dreams will leave you here
but still you wake and know the truth
no one's there

say goodnight
don't be afraid
calling me calling me as you fade to black

Katherine: It's time, Drake. You know that, don't you?
Drake: I know. I'm scared.
Katherine: Don't be, my love. Don't ever forget me. Don't let this happen again.
Drake: I won't. Never. I can't lose you again.
Katherine: You don't have to. I can be with you, always. But you've come to the crossroads. You have to choose, Drake. Will you choose the man, or the monster?
Drake: I choose...the man.

Bring Me To Life

how can you see into my eyes like open doors
leading you down into my core
where i've become so numb without a soul
my spirit sleeping somewhere cold
until you find it there and lead it back home

wake me up
wake me up inside
can't wake up
wake me up inside
save me
call my name and save me from the dark
wake me up
bid my blood to run
can't wake up
before i come undone
save me
save me from the nothing i've become

now that i know what i'm without
you can't just leave me
breathe into me and make me real
bring me to life

wake me up
wake me up inside
can't wake up
wake me up inside
save me
call my name and save me from the dark
wake me up
bid my blood to run
can't wake up
before i come undone
save me
save me from the nothing i've become
bring me to life
i've been living a lie
there’s nothing inside

frozen inside without your touch without your love darling
only you are the life among the dead

all this time i can't believe i couldn't see
kept in the dark but you were there in front of me
i've been sleeping a thousand years it seems
got to open my eyes to everything
without a thought without a voice without a soul
don't let me die here
there must be something more
bring me to life

wake me up
wake me up inside
can't wake up
wake me up inside
save me
call my name and save me from the dark
wake me up
bid my blood to run
can't wake up
before i come undone
save me
save me from the nothing i've become
bring me to life
i've been living a lie

Drake awakens, brimming with Essence, his soul unburied and once again. He rescues John, assists the group to once again close the Hellmouth, and leaves town to absorb all that has happened to him. He does not bid the group farewell, but in Drake's Crypt, John later finds a note that reads, "Walter was right all along."
